Hverdag Books is a small publisher and risography studio based in Moss that makes publications for and about the everyday. Take a look at what we have published before to get a better idea of the content and variable forms of our books.

In 2025,  Hverdag is seeking two individual artists or groups based in Norway who have a work they want to publish with us. 

An artist publication is a publication made by an artist. It can be a sketch,  a documentation of an artwork or artistic research, a companion to an artwork, a part of a larger work, or even an artwork in and of itself. It can be hard, soft, big, small, simple, or complex. The artist publication is a free, flexible, and experimental form.

You?

Hverdag's mandate is to publish works by underrepresented voices that are raw, vulnerable, and/or fragile. This mandate is elastic, not set in stone.  We welcome submissions from all who have an artwork or story they want to share that aligns with our vision.

Practical information

Publications will be made using the materials and techniques available at the Hverdag studio. This includes but is not limited to a risograph printer with 7 color drums, many different types and colors of paper and various binding options: perfect, coil bound, stapled, etc. 

Practical help and guidance will be provided every step of the way: from making a dummy, pre-press, design, editing, and production. All these steps will happen remotely or in Moss.

Before we have worked with and published poetry, illustration, photography, prose, all of the above, and more. This year, the open call is limited to artists based in Norway who are not currently students. You do not have to be previously published or have an art degree.

The timeframe for working on the chosen publications will be between May and October 2025.

Publications will receive a launch either at an art book fair, independently, and/or in connection with an external exhibition or event already confirmed by the artist.

Hverdag publishes primarily in English and/or bilingual (norsk). 

Fees / Support

It is free to send in an application. Søknader på norsk og engelsk vurderes likt. Søknader på svensk eller dansk er også velkomne.

We are happy to offer an artist fee of 10.000kr for each publication. In addition, we cover all production costs within reason. 

Artist who publish with Hverdag will also receive 30% of the printed edition unless otherwise agreed upon. Our editions are small, typically 100 copies.

Application process

Expect to hear back by the first week of April at the very latest. 

If you do not have or wish to use a Google account when submitting to the open call, you can download the application as a PDF and send the answers as an email.
